Is listening to neighbours' sex a relapse?

    Hi everyone,

I just heard that my neighbors had sex.
I wasn't sure whether I heard it well. After listening more carefully, I heard that indeed it was sex.
I got curious and listened against the wall for a few minutes. I got some dopamine rush and it excited me.
I did not do anything else than that, but I feel shitty now.

Is this considered a relapse or did this damage my recovery process?

    Thank you in advance

  3. Depends on your goals. Did you masturbate? If not, then probably not a relapse.

I've definitely heard neighbours having sex in the past and got crazy turned on. So, IMO, I don't think your arousal is abnormal.

If you can recognize that this behavior would be socially frowned upon without shaming yourself, please do.

There is a level of curiosity that is natural, and there is a level of maturity that compels others to choose to ignore the sex as best they can without listening against the wall. Consider that porn is unnaturally voyeuristic, and that your brain was responding to the same thing in this situation.

Don't beat yourself up about it, but also remember the next time it happens, call attention to the voyeuristic part of it and ask yourself if that is what you want to feed your brain.

  7. not a relapse

Maybe. (I honestly would reset my counter at that point, but that's my stand.)

    Definitely.
I mean don't beat yourself up. But analyze the situation. See it from an outside perspective. Is this the man you want to be (/truely are within yourself). This behaviour is beyond your dignity! Ask yourself: Wich lies did I feed myself in that moment, that has lead me to this behaviour.
What are the right thoughts I want to feed myself next time this/a similar situation occours.

Its pretty creepy and I don't think you should do it again, but I'm not sure I'd call it a relapse.

  9. Well, isn't that the kettle calling the pot black? A bunch of porn addicts shaming the OP for getting aroused by hearing people have sex! What is porn but watching and listening to other people have sex? I suppose these guys watched their porn on mute because listening is creepy and immoral

Our brains are wired to be aroused by this. Women moan to turn men on. Men tend to be quiet because they don't want other men to hear that their woman is "in the mood". Alpha men are more likely to be noisy during sex because they are not as worried about other men.

If you are doing NoFap, you've had very little sexual stimuli. Of course you were turned on and got a huge dopamine rush (and feel like crap after). Our brains are not designed to be constantly stimulated (by porn) but hearing a woman moan during sex is totally hot. It's supposed to be. And it's not something you hear all the time. If it was, you would get desensitised to it, and then it would get annoying.

  10. When we watch porn we are both watching and listening to strangers have sex, as opposed to what you did was just to listen. So as for me I won’t shame you. Whether it was or wasn’t a relapse only you know.

  11. No, but if you do it again it's going to be triggering and could impact your sobriety.

more like constructive criticism, porn scene are made by actor(unless illegal stuff) to sell you a product whereas listening to your neighbor rut is more akin to voyeurism/home-invasion honestly i don't know how one can compare the two.

Porn is acting. The girls fake moan and the guys fake moan and most of it is just fake acting to get people to watch it.

Listening to people in real life have sex privately in their home is creep behavior. This is why a lot of men turn to stalkers and pedophiles and what not. Get control brother you're stronger than these urges you feel. Let this go though if you hear it again put some headphoens on or get away from the wall. Don't listen in on people

  15. Exactly!

Most porn is, in theory, fake or acting. Yet it still turns people on. Do many people MO to sitcoms and Disney movies? That is also fake. The reason people PMO is because the P is a representation of other people having sex. It's totally normal, for men in particular, to get aroused by seeing and hearing other people having sex.

I wonder if this is something that comes from early tribal days?

The fear of being rejected by a woman apparently comes a combination of scarce options in a small tribe, repercussions from other males, and social stigma (one rejection increases the chance of others when the small group of women talk).

In the modern reality with an abundance of women, few repercussions from other males, and more social circles to avoid any stigma, it would appear our biological instinct for fearing rejection is outdated (though still present).

I guess the concept of men not being loud is a protective measure to not have someone interrupt the historically rare occasion of mating...? And this could also be ignored (with consideration for people nearby). Fascinating stuff...

Back to OP: You didn't instigate the noise, you became curious, that's okay. It's just another bump in the road but far from a major setback!

  17. It is disturbing for some, but I did read a thread on an internet forum about several teenage girls got incredibly turned on listening to their parents have sex and used to masterbate to the noise! I guess anything can trigger you it you're horny enough!

  18. Hey man.
I don't think it's a relapse. If it happens again then get away from your wall and start listening to some music you love. I know it's hard because the dopamine release you're getting hearing them having sex. But why to get dopamine in a wrong way where you can't do anything except masturbating. You can get your own good way of dopamine release by having sex. All the best. :)
