I heard a saying once and I thought it was funny: "Trying is the first step to failure". The point is try, try, and try again to meet your goals.

It is also like someone telling you not to think about a purple elephant. I soon as you try not to think about it you end up thinking about it.

Even further, sex is as readily available today as food is readily available. Those who are trying to lose weight in America have the same issue, it is always available. And those who are trying to lose weight often find themselves in positions where they compromise themselves, fall, and then hate themselves for it. And, so, it is with sensationalized sex.

The point is to stop trying and do. Look at others who have succeeded and how they succeeded. Take what they did and make it your own. You have a unique situation to your efforts as I do. What works for me may not work for you. But, at the core of it all it is the same: addicted to our biochemical make up.

Now, neuroscientist have different opinions about what exactly this means. Some say it is just chemical. For instance oxytocine is the bonding neurotransmitter or love neurotransmitter. Some scientist say that all love is is oxytocine. It is just the neurotransmitter. However, and I agree with this side of the argument, it is not just the oxytocine but how we interpret or process the information through the neurotransmitter oxytocine.

What I am trying to say is that when I believed that it was all just chemically nature I was doomed to live in this hell of despair and shame because it is just what my body needed to do and I had no say. However, by understanding I am a consciousness who interprets through the neurotransmitters my brain produced, I could take control and change course. I was no longer determined as in no free will to a soft-determination with a will to choose.

What I mean by soft-determination is that I now recognized that while have natural biological impulses for food and sex that drive me, I can now delay their need to be satiated for longer and longer periods of time. This has allowed me to direct these impulses toward fulfillment that did not violate my conscience. I can now fulfill their need in healthy and more satiating ways. This mode has given me clean hands and a clear conscience.

Take it or leave it. You are the one who decides when and how- through practice- to feed your body. After all, man does not have a body, he is one. Man is an integrated unit with needs to be controlled and satisfied according to his beliefs and conscience.

*sigh*. 0/90. Will I never get rid of this thing? Up to me, obviously. I almost reached 90 days one time. Last time was 22 days.

  9. Day 5. Turning away from porn is a good first step but you also need to embrace new things to replace it with. I'm working on that now. Starting an exercise program, meditating regularly, playing my guitar again, doing some writing, and diving back into some academic interests. Let's all reach towards a better life.

  10. It's a frustrating, reinforcing cycle - the more you PMO, the more you PMO. But the good news is, the *less* you PMO, the *less* your desire is to PMO again. You just need to flip the cycle into the other direction, which is hard at first but over time gets easier. Don't give up buddy.

  11. I understand the feeling of wanting to get rid of it, believe me. But I think maybe that's not a practical way to look at it. I think it's more like a management thing. Sometimes there are mistakes and setbacks, but the important thing to focus on is to work towards more self-discipline, better mental/physical health, and a more fulfilling life.

We are human and don't have to be perfect, but at the same time I think we often sell ourselves short and falter when the tough times come. We can push through those towards a better future if we maintain a positive attitude and are truly motivated to regain self-control. You can do it, friend.

Day 11 . I am kind of afraid and happy both. Because till now things went smooth without any serious urges. Don't know how long the journey will be easy. But when the urges return and will ... That time the things are going to get tough. I need to brace up and i have no idea how i will fight them or not give in. Didn't face in these 11 days so don't know how upcoming days will be.

@CarlosX Welcome and hope you continue improving! Up to you whether you want to start from day 0 or day 20, considering you already have 20 days no pmo, right?

Thank you very much, it is great having a longer streak. Trying to stay humble and not get complacent. Wish you all the best.
