i only get urges when i’m bored or not occupied with something else..anytime i’m occupied with something else or thinking about someone or something i never even think of p. but i can’t be occupied 24/7 i don’t think.. so what is there to do in my bored time like when i’m laying in my bed scrolling through youtube and eventually when i can’t find a video my mind wonders to p.
I decide what to think about instead of P. A verse, a mantra, an idea, something I find interesting and want to think about. When my mind strays to P, I’ve already got something to fill that headspace. I don’t recommend scrolling YouTube at all. If you get in, find your specific video and get out. YouTube wants you continuously clicking and scrolling, a quarter hypnotized. It keeps you in a vulnerable mental state. Not good for your streak, not good for your mind.
In neuroscience, there’s the task oriented mode. Then there the mind wandering mode which is the default. There are ways of modulating the default mode such as meditation, sleep, exercise, etc. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Default_mode_network Either way, the mind is always active, as demonstrated by the guy who invented EEG. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroencephalography Yeah, I’d stay away from doom scrolling. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doomscrolling Hope that helps.
Sorry if this is harsh, but I absolutely agree with @Meshuga in this. Scrolling youtube is a very stupid move. Doing that is just asking for a reset when you know its a weakness. If you know your biggest time of weakness is when you're bored or not occupied with something else, then make sure you're occupied with something that has no risks to your sobiety. Read a book, call a friend, watch a sermon, take a walk, ride a bike, do some volunteer work.....the possibilities to fill your spare time with things that won't risk your sexual sobriety (or won't risk it MUCH anyway) are endless! If you truly want to fight this battle, I think we all know that youtube is one of the last places you should be.
i deleted tik tok when i realized when im on it,i always relapse to porn, plus the flood of dopamine that comes from watching video after videi keeps you hooked for a long amount of time
Do activities that have an end-goal. It's more motivating to do such stuff. Learn to cook something. Read a book. Go for a walk. Subscribe to an online course. Any activities that requires effort and a longer-term end.
Personally, I would put TikTok in a worse category of danger than Youtube. No one goes to TikTok for educational videos on D.I.Y. projects, gameplay videos, church sermons, movie clips, or news updates.
