I have failed 3 out of 4 units at college last term, my first year coordinator warned me about my poor academic performance. Now the new term has begun 7 weeks ago, same things happen, I cant concentrate on what my mentor is saying, instead I thinking of something else, or some weird and unrelevant ideas. When doing exercises require alot of reading in class I always read significantly slower than most of the people in the class, I keep reading the same line or even worse, keep reading 3 or 4 of the same words again again and again. Also, it is so easy for me to forget what I have read previously so I need to re-read the previous sentences again. At the time when most of the peoeple have done all the questions I am still struggling to read and understand the first few paragraphs of the article. Its so frustrating and I am losing motivation not only to study but to everything. Gary Wilson in his TED Talk video says these are the porn addiction symptoms. So I am here to ask you guys, do any of you have the similar symptoms as I have, just as bad as I am? How long does it take the damn bloody brain to recover? Fully recovery sounds unrealistic within 2 months time but partially recovery would help alot! I am already in the middle of the term, the final exams are coming in soon and with such slow and broken brain there is no way I could pass the exams, if I screw things up this term, I might ended up getting kicked out from the college. As a guy whose turning 35 this year, this could mean I would never be able to go back to the college again. Thanks for the help guys!

I have the same problem. I also have to re-read sentences over and over again. It might just be because I am more of a mathematical person, but my reading skills definetly used to be better a few years ago. I do not know how long it takes to regain the ability to read properly again, I am now at day 10 of my reboot, but I cannot notice any improvements so far. I recommend you to try a reboot aswell, it may be difficult, but definitely worth it!

Hi there. A few things to look at....

    How well are you sleeping?
    Are you getting regular exercise?
How far into your PMO detox (clean time) are you?
How high are your general anxiety levels currently?
Do you have an accountability partner?
Have you spoken to your GP about your concentration issues?

Sure, you want to kick PMO & this can make concentration etc difficult at the start. But, you don't want to miss out on other contributing factors.

Let us know regarding the above & any other things you're doing to assist you.

Its the porn dude. Trust me, I was just like you back when I was watching. I just couldn't focus, I thought everyone was judging me/that I was weird. You are suffering the effects of BRAIN FOG.
It results from watching porn. Masturbating alone will not cause brain fog, but pornography combined with masturbation will cause it.

Stop watching porn forever, stop masturbating for at least 60 days and you'll see a HUGE change in your perception.

  5. Although it COULD be brain fog from porn, you might want to consider getting an evaluation from a physician to give you some advice or do some testing. Plus, if you're not doing well in school, proof that you're taking it seriously by seeing a physician might help strengthen your case academically.

Hi there buddy. I usually sleep quiet late at night at around 2am in the morning, so I've only have 5-6 hours sleep at night. After comming back from work or from college I would take an hour nap in the afternoon. I do running exercise about twice a week (sometimes none), 17-20 mins each, getting lazier nowaday while I used to run at least 5 to 6 days a week in last Christmas. My psychologist said I do have anxiety but she did not mentioned how severe it is unfortunately. I am single without any partner/gf atm. I have yet talk to a GP about this issue. I have now reached the 4th day of PMO, but still having a lot of erotic fantasies unfortunately, I have no idea how to fix the counter there, it was wrong. Thanks:)

Hello mate. 2 years ago my psychologist did a WAIS IV test and hearing test for me stated that I have bad working memory and processing speed problem (much weaker than others in my age group). I then ask her if I need to see specialist for this issue and do some special training programs but she said I dont. But of course I have never told her that I am a heavy porn user whose usually masturbate several times a day, I am just too shy to tell somebody this. But seeing a local GP about this issue while not hiding the fact that I am a porn user is a good idea I think, it really has hindered me from doing fine in college, thank you.

  8. I would definitely be completely honest when you're seeing your GP. And if s/he can't meet you in your honesty, then you're in the wrong place. This is a medical issue, and I would hope the doctor has the maturity and training to treat it as such. My two cents.

I agree - I think it would be good for you to go & see a GP & be honest about your challenge with PMO. Maybe they will suggest you go on a short course of cognitive behavioural therapy sessions - if you are in a country where the government would pay for that, so much the better. Apparently it is excellent at helping to deal with anxiety, shaping thought patters in more positive directions etc.

Apart from that, it would be good to get your exercise levels back up to previous levels, or at least get out walking every day. We so easily get stuck in our little PMO world/head-space & a key part of recovery is re-connecting with the world in a deeper way. If you can find yourself an accountability partner, that would also be great for you.

Keep checking in here every day - you have a tribe keen to support & encourage.

    Together we will overcome.

obviously goddamn pmo, it leads to brainfog, depression, anxiety..... i was warned several times due to my poor performance. so shit. do what guys said above, but personally telling your counselor ur addiction is a two edge sword. it could make u feel even worse after that. so just think carefully before u tell him or her.
the only way i can think of right now is mindfulness. stay strong man. i'm working on it too

Thanks for the helps and reply bro. I will go and see GP when I have time, but I dont think I would be able to see the benefits before my final exams come as my GP would need to introduce me a specialist and the specialist would need time to organize me the tests and the training programs. So all I can do now is to stay away from PMO, doing daily aerobatic exercise like you said above, giving myself plenty of sleep and have a healthy lifestyle. I always hear people saying how great meditation to the brain is but I found it not easy to concentrate on breathing (according to the test result my psychologist had, I do not have concentration problem, how is that possible o_O?), or at least I may still have no idea how to do it properly. Cheers bro, lets overcome this PMO problem together, we can do it!

I agree mate, PMO is the most important reason for this! But its abit too late to see the GP at this point as my final exams will come soon although I will still going to see GP when I have the time but doing nofap and PMO free is what would help me the most at current situation. Yeah I know mindfulness meditation is great for the brain but I have hard time to doing it, would need time to practice and getting used to it, I will do it for sure! Thanks for the helps and the inspiring words, we can do it, cheers!

  14. I've had this problem. However, I never thought it had anything to do with porn and more about me having mild dyslexia. But maybe I'm wrong What has helped me overcome is whenever I find myself reading something a few times I stop reading that and move onto the next part - it doesn't matter if I haven't taken in everything that is said in the text since we don't remember everything that has been said and if it's important I'll come back to it after I've finished the reading. Another thing I do is take a break. If I'm just in the mindset of wanting to read the same over and over again I stop reading and return to it later. One thing that helped me read faster is learning about speed reading. I'm still not the fastest reader in the world but I'm not as bad as I used to be. You can find out more about speed reading here.

I'm in my 30's and in school again and I'm struggling. I planned to defer my module today but I had an email from my tutor this morning saying that he had given me another week to get my essay done. So I'm going to try and get it done but if I can't I will defer. For me, it's been all the procrastination about writing essays that has caused me the trouble and I think brain fog and PMO has played it's part in me putting off work.

I hope you can turn this around. If things don't work out maybe you could look into Open University. It has its good sides and bad sides but it might be better than a regular university for you.

    It might seem forever
It might seem like forever but it will pass. Many of us have to come to terms with the fact that pmo is the culprit and time and abstinence is the only effective healer.

  17. I am very weak. Do you feel like nofap helped your feeble mind and presence? Makes you a man again?

  18. It definitely is PMO that is making your memory worse. Mine was absolutely terrible I passed two exams in my third year of plumbing and failed many, many more. This year whilst away from porn I passed five exams within two months whilst 4 months free.

It gradually comes back. But you can’t watch porn ever again.
