The Bible don't mention masturbation. Yet it's pretty obvious than in the light of the message conveyed by it, it's a sin.

Sin is selfishness. Because of that even "good" things can become sinful if our heart is focused on gratifying ourselves instead of worshipping God as he is due. Eating fruit isn't inherietly bad; however, doing so after someone in authority forbid eating it is a sinful act.

We have been designed with the purpose to worship and serve God but our sinful (selfish) actions have filled us with the propensity to continue to desire and seek after more sin. However, Christ gave up every thing to rescue us from these predispositions. Its a trade though giving up our want to gratify ourselves to love selflessly as Christ did.

Honestly Jesus says a lot of hard things about those who give up all their literal possessions to provide for others and preservering to the end to prove faithfulness. Im not even certain I'm 'saved' and that probably a good place to be for now all things considered. Its really easy to loose site of why we should or shouldn't do something but if love and gratitude for all that he's done for us, he died for us, then it isn't a good reason to act on or even entertain it.

The bible talks about masterbation while discussing the fact that a man should not waste his seed when he should be giving it to his wife. It does not say it is a sin. And specifically nothing regarding single men masterbating.

 

You are referring to the passage with Onan and her dead brother's wife. It doesn't deal with masturbation and you misinterpreted the passage.
So I'd say that you are wrong. Above, we talked about the meaning of the passage which is that Onan deprived Tamar from having children. God killed him for this reason only.

Now, don't get me wrong, I am a true believer in the fact that masturbation is a sin but this episode from the OT is not a good one to advocate for this contention.

While I agree that it is wrong. The bible does not say it is . I think you misread my reply.
But wether or not masterbation is a sin does not matter. Because lust, gluttony and greed all are. And looking at porn includes all of these things.

 

Yes you are right the Bible never mentions anything about masturbation (maybe because masturbation is really dumb per se ?)
But, as you said, the Bible condemns selfishness, greed, lust...

When we are done with this addiction, we will be better people in the eyes of God ! That's a good motivation !

I personally do not think masturbation is sinful but if it becomes a very regular, habitual thing, then it is not what God intends.

The Bible does not specifically say anything about masturbation. The story of Onan in Genesis has nothing to do with masturbation. Most Bible scholars agree here. Would could be a sin is what is going on in your mind while you are masturbating. I don't know about you, but whenever a masturbate I fantasize about having sex with a woman--or multiple women. This fantasizing is where the sin lies. Jesus said whosoever looks upon a woman with lust has committed adultery with her in his heart.
So technically, if you can masturbate without thinking about sex, then maybe it's not a sin. But I think you would be playing with fire if you tried to do this. I think that it would lead to impure, sinful thoughts and maybe even the viewing of Internet porn.
So I don't think your attitude should be to see how much you can get away with without sinning.

 

And what is the passage RIGHT AFTER Jesus says 'If you look at a woman lustfully you have committed adultery with her in your heart?'

'If your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off'.

Guys, the Bible DOES talk about masturbation!

Don't beat yourself up if you do it--there is forgiveness and freedom from it to be found in Jesus!
