We can easily brush off hostile attacks and navigate through pressure or problems. Upon completion, we confidently gesture to the crowd, declaring, "Next!"

    Who is in control here?

You’re the byproduct of your experiences.
The gap leads to unhealthy comparisons and a lack of learning from your experiences. The gain happens when you transform every experience into personal growth. Regardless of the situation, frame the experience as a positive gain.
Take a proactive and conscious approach to learning from experiences, aiming to improve rather than harbor bitterness.
If you view challenging situations positively, seeing them as gains, life works in your favor. Instead of being shaped by experiences, your conscious choices define their meaning, making you the architect of your own narrative.

You own your experiences; they don’t own you.

Your future self benefits from enhanced perspective, purpose, and empathy gained through past experiences.
    upload_2024-2-5_2-40-44.png
The Pygmalion effect is a psychological phenomenon where higher expectations lead to an increase in performance or achievement.

As maturity grows, goals tend to become more proactive and consciously chosen, while lesser maturity often leads to pursuing goals reactively and unconsciously.

The public speaker and author Zig Ziglar said, “Your input determines
your outlook. Your outlook determines your output, and your output determines your future.” Better inputs lead to better thinking and ultimately better outputs. Garbage in, garbage out.
    upload_2024-2-5_14-28-19.jpeg

Is your life the product of conscious choosing, or are you merely reacting to your environment? Are your surroundings governing you, or do you influence your environment?

    upload_2024-2-5_14-32-44.jpeg

The more conscious you become of how everything you do right now impacts the person you are in the future, the better and more thoughtful your actions will be.
When you engage in short-term reward seeking that produces negative long-term consequences, then you’re costing your Future Self.

Trade inattentional blindness for selective attention.

Being outside the arena means you’re overthinking, caught in paralysis by analysis.

Courage is the doorway to all positive change.
    IMG_2988.jpeg
Spectators are caught in paralysis by analysis, fear, and decision fatigue. The longer you wait to enter your arena, the more you limit your Future Self.

Success Disease makes people begin to forego to different degrees the effort, focus, discipline, teaching, teamwork, learning, and attention to detail that brought ‘mastery’ and its progeny, success.
Success is difficult to handle. Most people self-destruct once things start getting good.

The next time you are afraid of some supposedly disastrous outcome, remember that if you don’t control your impulses, if you lose your self-control, you may be the very source of the disaster you so fear.

The next time you find yourself in the middle of a freakout, or moaning and groaning with flulike symptoms, or crying tears of regret, just ask: Is this actually making me feel better? Is this actually relieving any of the symptoms I wish were gone?

The more detailed your Future Self, the better. The more measurable and specific your goals and milestones, the more effective will be your process and progress.

“Throw out your conceited opinions, for it is impossible for a person to begin to learn what he thinks he already knows.”
    —EPICTETUS, DISCOURSES, 2.17.1

The reality is that we’re all guilty of thinking we know it all, and we’d all learn more if we could set that attitude aside. As smart or successful as we may be, there is always someone who is smarter, more successful, and wiser than us. Emerson put it well: “Every man I meet is my master in some point, and in that I learn of him.”
If you want to learn, if you want to improve your life, seeking out teachers, philosophers, and great books is a good start. But this approach will only be effective if you’re humble and ready to let go of opinions you already have.

Cool thread, I like motivational stuff like this. Stoics have a lot of wisdom to teach us, too.
You ever watch "Motiversity" on YT? You might like it.

Thanks for the sharing. I started to practice mindfulness 1 month ago, and it seems like a nice way to keep my mind to be more calm. It is not just about my lust, but also other negative feelings that bothering me, e.g., sad, lonely feelings. I hope the more practice i do i will be able to deal with those lust and negative feelings easier.

Absolutely, I'm glad you find it helpful, brother. Stoic philosophy is incredibly rich and offers valuable insights into living a fulfilling life. Yes, I have watched "Motiversity", it is a fantastic resource for motivation and personal growth. I absolutely love those videos. I reckon you must have watched Ben Lionel Scott’s videos as well, the guy does a good job too. Stay strong, mate.

That's wonderful to hear! Practicing mindfulness can indeed be a powerful tool for cultivating inner calm and resilience against negative emotions. It's great to hear that you've already noticed its benefits in managing not just lust but also other challenging emotions. With consistent practice, you'll likely find it easier to navigate these feelings and maintain a sense of peace within yourself. Keep up the good work, and remember that progress often comes gradually with mindfulness practice. Keep on your mindful journey, it's a beautiful path to walk. Stay strong, mate.
