Yes I think a low serotonin baseline might be directly to related to it as it’s the counterpart to dopamine. I remember taking SSRI (Anti-Depressants) 10 years ago in a ridiculous attempt to feel better after quitting drugs. I remember that I struggled to reach orgasm while masturbating. While this was the other extreme it very well could be that my serotonin has to return to homeostasis for me to not cum early. Thanks for taking your time, I appreciate that.

Of over 15 yrs of pmo then tapered down as of 1-2 yrs ago. I was living fine and feeling great just occasionally watching 1x a week pmo. You know how that goes it just spirals to consume more and more till you feel the ill effects of pmo.. fastforward to 4 months of hardcore NoFap and i have PAWS will prolly last many more months.. just need to eat clean exercise and abstain from alcohol girls and other stimulants and addictive habbits /substances i know this will be the end of it forever. On to a better life!

@DerJogge You have absolutely no idea what you're talking about don't you? There is zero evidence that porn "addiction" desensitizes dopamine receptors, let alone serotonin receptors. All peer-reviewed research and meta analysis on post SSRI use, show that all serotonin receptor subtypes reach homeostasis. You're just regurgitating the same bollocks that all the other pseudoscientists with zero credentials on the internet use. I know you try to act clever, but I can tell you're pretty scientific illiterate when it comes to neurobiology.

Ah I am sorry for triggering you! Show me any evidence of desensitized dopamine receptors caused by pornography. I know there are brain changes visible with BOLD imaging. Voon et al. and Kuhn et al. comes to mind. Less grey matter and less DA output to mPFC. So yeah, there is some evidence. But not any evidence (yet) for dopamine receptor underexpression in the striatum. Especially the NAcc shell and core, which Gary Wilson hypothesized. Your turn now, idiot.

BTW, I never said you guys don't have issues with porn and no withdrawal. Nice strawman.

    Hi Everyone,

I'm on day 38 of no PMO, and I've been feeling ridiculously depressed for over a week now. I mean I'm normally susceptible to depressive moods, but this feels like my brain has been wrung out like a sponge!

I have been taking supplements for 8 days to try and help my brain chemistry, so was wondering what sort of stuff you guys have had success with regarding diet/supplements? I'm a vegetarian so won't start eating steaks to combat this!

I posted this in another thread, where a guy was suffering from hypodopaminergic symptoms (withdrawal). You might want to give this regimen a try, and include omega-3, uridine and a choline source as well:

"Try these supplements and a "drug"

    - 1 gram of Iboga rootbark per day on an empty stomach for GDNF and BDNF increase (Google Iboga microdosing)

    - Take 100mg of esketamine (will strenghten and reset the mesocorticolimbic pathway and increases BDNF)

    - Take 30mg 9-Me-BC a day on an empty stomach. This is a dopaminergic miracle drug. Increases many neurotrophic factors and increases dopamine neurons in the hippocampus and area's in the basal ganglia.

    Good luck."

    Thanks for the suggestion.

Unfortunately it looks like 9-Me-BC isn't available in the UK from my quick Google search.

Anything else out there that's good for Dopamine regulation? I've cut screen time and caffeine right down at the same time as PMO, so I guess my brain is screaming a little about that combo!

You think quoting some scientific articles proves anything? If you would know how real science would work, you would know that just because a matter of interest isn’t researched yet doesn’t mean the phenomena is not existing. There is an actual research gap concerning porn and it’s effect. You can quote literally anything if you don’t lay out the bigger picture. I don’t claim to be right with my theory. It’s just a plausible explanation for my experience and I’m in no situation to test this hypothesis.

The only thing I know is that you have no clue either of what you are talking about. There is a group of people out there that only acknowledge the existence of things once science has proved it. I’m studying science by myself and I highly detest all the people that follow this kind of thought process. PAWS is not even researched yet and same goes for porn. Gary Willson even Said himself that the problem with studying porn is the fact that there is barely any control group which watches no porn.

After all you mostly seem to be a troll. Coming to NoFap's forum and telling people that porn addiction isn’t affecting their neurotransmitters while every other addiction clearly does. At the same moment you are recommending a wild mix of supplements to someone on the internet by giving a broad recommendation you made on some other guy which is a totally different case. Omega 3 and some cholin isn’t the missing key for most of us here and the way you present yourself indicates that you are the one trying to sound clever by making citations that no one can actually can use because they are missing key elements of proper citation. If you followed my earlier posts then you would know that I never ever claimed to know it all and that everything I say is right. But you are not the first one in here that completely misinterpreted my intentions so I guess that to some people my person might cause conflict and friction. I don’t know why this happens but in my normal life people don’t talk shit to me like that because they understand my intentions and motives: I’m thinking loud and reporting from my experience to puzzle together a picture that isn’t discussed by science yet because we just recently reached a point of quantitative experiences that come together in a forum that openly talks about PMO and it’s negative effects. Just because science hasn’t found it yet doesn’t mean it’s not true. American Science told us for decades that smoking is good for you and won’t cause lung cancer while cholesterol is bad for you and sugar is good for you. I give a flying fuck about science I didn’t read and evaluated.

Wow, that is amazingly detailed and mature response. You're actually right. You do seem like a science knowing person upon further inspection. You get my respect for that. Sorry for that, I take back what I said about you. Stay strong and keep learning.

As long as you keep waiting for the "Moment of revelation" You'll stay trapped in an "Alert state" It would be beneficial to make up your mind all along about things that are not good for you in life and to fashion an unquestionable "Belief" that quitting is for your own good. If you believe it 100%, there will be no need to count the days or to stay alert at all.

Surrender and accept yourself as who you are right now in this very moment, and start working on shaping yourself into the best version that you can be. This means that you will have to take care of yourself as if you're someone that matters, by seeking the best that life can offer.

Life can't be perfect at all times, but find your way around it. if your mind is a mess, you must know all the answers as to why it is that way. The very possible answer is that you're not taking care of yourself as if you matter. Take it easy on yourself and stop putting too much unnecessary strain on your mind.

What exactly are you trying to accomplish here? This thread is for people struggling to find others who are going through a similar experience. Thats pretty much it.

Theres no need to come in so angry and i can tell you right now that your opinion is falling on dead ears. Look at the length of this thread, we have been around for a while and many people have come to say their bit. They all think they know whats best for everyone but almost always have little to no idea.

You are clearly just looking for an argument. Go
to twitter or something or go for a run and let it out.

    Totally agree.

Keep the smart-ass snark for Twitter.

@Dumnap if you really give a shit, show some respect and read back through this thread, listen to what we're saying, and think before jumping in. And then do it carefully.

    Hello.

    Forgive me.

Whatever I say is cryptic, ambiguous.

Some people can't be fooled. Like @DerJogge. I follow a certain protocol. He stood his ground and is able to form an intellectual rebuttal. I have respect for that.

  19. Just wanted to share some recovery news in case it helps others.

In mid February I met up with a woman from an online dating app. We ended up having sex three times, the third time I was really struggling to maintain an erection. The next day I was feeling a combination of flu like symptoms and a hangover with zero libido.

Between then and yesterday I was back in monk mode, yesterday we saw each other again. Sex went without a hitch and this morning I was feeling a little under the weather but nowhere near as bad as before. Also I'm pleasantly surprised to discover that I have some sensation downstairs as opposed to flatlining.

The good news is that refractory periods are getting shorter and orgasm is not setting me back as much. I'm estimating that I will need a good year after exiting the flatline to be 100% back to normal.

    Fantastic! Congrats bro.

Happy to say im still going strong, at around 92 days or so i think.

Ive also started feeling better a little bit. My sleep has improved slightly but i am going through a phase of wet dreams, one every week now id say.

The symptoms are still mostly there but have calmed down from their extreme intensity. Im still hyperfocused on women but it has improved
