Hey guys I'm here wondering what is the best way you guys deal with urges? Whenever I try mindfulness and sit with the urges they somehow just take me over, what should I do? Should I just acknowledge the urges and then go do something else or should I continue to sit with the urges?
do you have any compulsive fantasy thoughts haunting your mind all the time? then whenever those thoughts or impulses occur..you just stop the transmission of that impulses through your brain..consciously visualise a fresh green mountain surrounded by dense forest..breath in and out by feeling the freshness in it and just go through that drone view of forest and enjoy it..whenever urges comes do like this..it may be helpful to you
Practise delayed gratification + procrastination. Tell yourself you can do it tomorrow, just not today. The urge should die off in 30 mins, or you should fall asleep; whichever first.
Every time you have an urge remind yourself who's in charge of your body. It's hard and you will get urges throughout the day but reminding yourself that you alone are in charge and will not give in to any urges helps a lot, well for me anyways.
Get active. Get up and move. The urge comes from the mind, from ur addiction and ur programing. Get back into ur body. Move or take a cold shower. Meditate every day to realize that thoughts create ur urges and by meditating u'll learn to cope with your thoughts. By time you gonna be able to control ur energy. Which leads to focussing on urself and other tasks.
