The site needs fresh blood

Discussion in 'Off-topic Discussion' started by UnholyConfessor, Oct 19, 2023.

  1. It's there again now. Weird. Anyway, what I was going to say was a new site is a good idea but I don't have the time or the knowledge of how to do it.

  2. You've been misinformed. There have been no recent changes to the rules. Furthermore, One Eyed Owl is not, nor ever was, a moderator.

I'll discuss your questions with the rest of the team, sorry we've left them unanswered for so long. I'll just say this briefly to respond to some of the things that have been said in this thread: we still are as passionate as ever about this issue and providing resources to people in recovery.

  3. First of all, thanks for replying. But honestly now I'm confused. When One Eyed Owl responded to me, his profile said he was a moderator assistant. Now it doesn't. His comment has also been removed. This is all very strange to me.

Regardless, I do hope that the issue of site registration can be solved sooner rather than later and the site can return to normal.

He was a moderator assistant correct? So he was still a member of the team. That's some doublespeak if I have ever seen it.

I do agree with OPs response. This site has become dry recently and I feel NNN would be a great time to bring it back to relevancy.

  5. I've yet to experience NNN on the forum and was looking forward to it, weirdly. Closest thing we porn addicts have to Christmas lmao.

As @UnholyConfessor mentioned thank you for responding. Hopefully our questions will get answered after you discuss with the moderation team.

And as both he and @EmperorLaStrang said, @One Eyed Owl had the title mod assistant up until his post was removed from this thread, I believe i've seen him approve profile pictures in the past. Not sure why there was a need to push him out like that, nor delete his post. Quite strange.

I hate to say it but it may have to become a mandatory subscriber site. That way they could pay people to run it.

  9. That would fix the immediate issue but price out a lot of people. A lot of users are down on their luck anyway, asking them to pay to use a forum is a step too far for me. A compromise would be making the paid options better than they are now.

  10. Well I'm happy to see that the forum seems to be allowing in new members. Or at least, I've seen a couple join in the last few minutes. Is the problem finally fixed?

I'll use this thread as a chance to get started on commenting as I recently revived my account. Just a few mere weeks ago when I started lurking on this site again, I did find myself commenting how few new threads there are. I really hope the site manages to continue kicking down the line as fresh threads would be the reason to keep using the site. Digressing a bit - the reason I personally took my leave for a while after registering was the somber ambient on this site - it feels very grievous to sort through these threads, and while it does help to know you're not alone in this struggle, it felt emotionally overwhelming. Nothing to do about it I suppose, just the nature of fighting off a common misery.

Not that this would be a sufficient reason for the forum to have tumbleweeds rolling around, just could be a contributing factor to the reclusivity.

  12. I get what you're saying. I think the atmosphere is partly because of the lack of people. Even when I joined it used to be a lot more lively. I've spoken to people who were on here much longer and they've also noticed the decline. I also find it difficult to read other people suffering but I try to help where I can.

I'm pleased to see this is being brought up, and discussed in a positive manner by all.

I've mentioned in a few of the challenges in the 'Events & Challenges' section how quiet it's been getting, and with no new registered users, that section is dying too. As others have mentioned, when current users drop out for a break, or don't come back for a while, we rely on new users to come in and keep things going. Now we have people leaving for a break to reset, but no new users to fill the void, resulting in a quieter forum overall. This could possibly alienate current users, who may feel like no one's listening to them, or that whoever is listening and responding, will just disappear too.

It looks like 12 new users have been allowed on today, so hopefully, all of them will start to become active, and more new users are allowed on, just in time for No Nut November.

Honestly, the layout of the site, the ease in which it is to post, is what makes it superior to all other No PMO sites out there. Reddit gets an awful lot of attention, but this site is what attracts people first. It's easy to read too, and such a vital source of information and testimonies on various things from people down the years.

A mandatory subscriber site would probably push people to places like Reddit, Reboot Nation, etc. I think it would kill off the place for good.

Maybe a message to all users in their inbox about the future direction of the site, or answers to questions raised would be helpful, so that no one misses out on what's said or decided. Maybe a reassurance message that this place will still be around in the future, and a rallying call for users with accounts to come back and start posting.

    Just some thoughts.

  14. Yeah I think the site has a good layout and is pretty easy to use compared to other forums too. A forum-wide message explaining things is a good idea too.

Who is the team manager? The manager for many years does not seem to be listed among the staff so has he left? Who is taking the lead?

  16. Moderator assistants are not moderators. They help moderators identify rule breaking content, approve avatars, and move threads to the correct forums sections if posted in the wrong section. They aren't, however, involved with setting or enforcing moderation policy, or answering user questions about moderation policy, moderated content, and/or moderator actions.

Clearly the important question that needed to be answered was establishing the hierarchy of "moderator" vs "moderator assistant" and discrediting any work or contribution that member has done throughout the years, answering the rest is secondary, tertiary or even unnecessary .
