  1. IGY = International Geophysical Year.
It was an international scientific project that lasted from 1 July 1957 to 31 December 1958.

Of course, that was long before I was born.
It marked the end of a long period during the Cold War when
scientific interchange between East/West had been seriously interrupted.

As a fan of Donald Fagen of Steely Dan, I loved his first solo album - The Nightfly (1982).
The first song on the album is I.G.Y. (What A Beautiful World). Have a listen:-

So, why did I pick IGY to identify me on this forum?
Because the chorus sums up my optimism about completing this challenge successfully:

"What a beautiful world this will be, what a glorious time to be free."

  2. I can't remember where I got the idea of surfing being like doing NoFap from. It may of come from the book Surfing for God. But anyway I think facing temptation is like surfing a wave. In surfing a wave comes and you ride it until the wave ends, and the way a surfer deals with a wave is how we should deal with temptations (a tempting thought comes our way and we need to wait it out). It's not easy though, but it's possible. As for the poet part, well I do write poetry but I've been neglecting it lately.

Contrary to people's expectations, my name has nothing to do with religion.

Jesus Green is a park in Cambridge in the UK, near where I went to school/used to hang out.

I was also a Jesus for a while back when I had long hair, and that was how I originally got the username. Wanted to sign up somewhere, but for obvious reasons "Jesus" would be taken, and I had no idea what to stick after it, then I remembered the park. The forum in question happened to have something to do with a certain recreational leafy green herb that I used to indulge in when I was younger.. so I was like "Hah, Jesus Green. Double meaning. That's perfect"

...That was like 8-9 years ago and I've just used it ever since.

I used to like the name, not really a fan of it anymore, but I suck at coming up with usernames so it's usually a good few years before I settle on a new one.

  6. At first I was under the impression you were some sort of crazy Christian or something. Lol!

    Your name is pretty cool.

Mine is kind of stupid, and doesn't have any real meaning, but here's the story anyways.

Back in early July, I had finally come to the end of my rope, and was desperately sitting here at my desk searching the internet for help quitting PMO. I found nofap, spent some time reading some success stories, and decided to join up. My thinking was quite off at the time, and I was really struggling to come up with a name to use on here. I mean really struggling. Out of ideas and out of my mind, I spied a very old bottle of glue sitting on my desk. It looks much like this one, just older labeling.

I've been LEPAGE here ever since.

K is the first letter of my name
4C is For Christ, so together it's Me for Christ, meaning my intention to live my days out for him
41 is a number I got from a book by Billy Graham where he said there's been approximately 40 generations from Christ to us, so what'll we do as generation 41? It helps to keep me focused and not fall back as much
28 is the numbers of my two favorite quarterbacks of all time combined: Joe Montana and Tom Brady. I want to be athletes like them, so it's a constant reminder to keep working at it, y'know? All in all, my name really is just a reminder to get me to live my life to the best I can and constantly be improving

I was hopelessly addicted to PMO and cybersex and then I found yourbrainonporn.com and the NoFap site. It woke me up and I started a reboot, but I never signed up for a NoFap account. I made it to Day 68 or something but was getting closer and closer to relapse in a really bad way. I was in an absolute panic about whether I was going to give up and PMO, but I decided that I would make a NoFap account and write about my panic instead. I hadn't even considered that I'd need a username, so I didn't really know what to do. I know the way you think about yourself can sometimes be self-fulfilling, so in that moment of panic I decided to be Strength And Light, which is exactly what I needed. And you could say that it was indeed self-fulfilling because I did not relapse that day. That was over a year ago and I still have not relapsed.

It always makes me sad to see a username like WorstGuyEver or LostCause95 or CantQuitPMO or whatever. It might seem slight, but I think there's a silent signal you send yourself every time you log in and see yourself labeled in that way.

My username was weird to me at first because it seemed to me like a name someone religious would use, and I'm not really religious. I wasn't sure if people would make that assumption about me. Nobody has, but there have been quite a few that assumed my avatar was a Hindu mudra and that I'm Hindu. I'm just a guy in California and the avatar is a sort of A-Ok gesture. :) Btw, great idea for the thread!

  12. I took my nickname on nofap from alchemy. I do like alchemy :)

In alchemy, the green lion eats the sun. On a chemical level this is a metaphor for when a green, liquid sulfate called “vitriol” purifies matter, leaving behind the gold within the matter. Very pure vitriol is an acid that eats through practically anything, except gold.

On a human level, the green lion eating the sun is a metaphor for when a person’s “consciousness [is] overwhelmed by violent, frustrated desires” (Fabricus). In other words, inside a person, when the metaphor of the green lion eating the sun takes place, the person is compelled to act out destructively.

In contrast, when the green lion eats the sun in a person on a higher spiritual path (for example, an alchemist), the person allows the green lion to eat them in order to be purified—to become spiritually golden.

it sums up my recovery perfectly. basically coming out of my mistakes, becoming a better person so I can endure everything and leaving the old vices forever. becoming a better person is the key to deal with old vices so they do not tempt you as in the past and you are free from them for good. Best feeling ever :emoji_muscle:

also my profile pic when Mufasa says "you are more than what you have become" and "remember who you are" that scene really touched me, looking back at when i was desperate to fight for me, struggling with forgiving myself and then remember i was never my addictions

  13. My nickname, Haddock, actually is based off of some random video game character from when I was nine. I didn't have an online name, so I just took the name from a character that I liked.

I have Danish and Norwegian friends that are studying abroad here. About a year ago, I needed to come up with a name for another website. I recently been into Christianity at that time, so I wanted something to do with Faith, but I didn't know what.

That's when my Danish and Norwegian friends suggested "Evig" for me, which in Danish and Norwegian, means "eternal".

Ever since then, just the concept of "Eternal faith" was enough for me to appreciate it, and I kept it.

  15. I have to say props on this one. I really liked your reason for the choosing of the nickname, so powerful. Not to put down the other nicknames and their reasoning for it, those are great too, but this one really stood out for me. Also great nickname, I like the positivity :).
