I really messed up today. Although luckily I didn't relapse, I binged watching YouTube all day long. And it is putting guilt on me, considering the fact that I watched videos that I'm not supposed to watch because it might triggers me (pranks, pick-ups, etc.)

I'm wondering if any of you guys has an advice of how to get rid of YouTube addiction and also the guilt after messing up, how do I prevent relapse after binging like this?

Block youtube completely using an app such as cold turkey. This will work short term but in the long term you need a new mindset. You need to value your time and tell yourself what I am watching is not worth my time. I have dreams to chase.

Just now I eventually relapsed nevertheless.

  5. I just quit YouTube recently because it led to my last few relapses, too many triggers so I’m gonna try to take a few months off of the stuff

I really wanna abstain from YouTube, but there are many tasks that I could do more effectively and easily with YouTube. I'm tryna' limit my usage, but YouTube suggestions are damn lures. It's very hard to ignore them.

Thanks bro, I'll try to watch more stand ups. Moreover I can learn much from their wit.

  9. i think motion picture in general is something which can mess up the reward circuitory ( though not as bad as porn ). i quit television, youtube, movies etc. ( basically most of the motion picture ) about a month ago and i feel much more centred, stable and am much more mindful of the present moment. so i'd say definitely quit youtube and try limiting other types of motion picture as well.

How about educational or self-improvement stuff?

  11. that, in my opinion, is alright if it is not dramatised and the programme just sticks to facts and theories.
another thing i find annoying about the movies and tv shows of the 21st century is the high rate of shot change ( change of one shot to the next .eg - for 2 seconds there is a close up shot, then for 5 seconds there is an overview shot and then the scene completely changes etc.) movies and tv shows of the 80's and early 90's had a good 1 minute or more in a single shot. but now it is no more than 5 seconds. this kind of excessive change , in my opinion, is not good for the brain and translates into real life as attention deficiency.
    just my 2 cents.

Yea that's true, moreover sometimes it's inconvenient for the eyes :D, but does it really effect the brain? I didn't know that.

  13. i dont know of any scientific studies on this subject. but the improvements in brain functioning i have felt after quitting motion picture are certainly enough for me to stick to a no or low motion picture lifestyle. and moreover you just have so much more free time to do other things which are actually productive.

I struggle with this as well. Not necessarily with Pranks and whatnot, but at 2am I would watch vine compilations and that would tempt me to relapse.

Cutting down on mindless internet consumption helps.

Agree, often times wasting time on trivial matters that don't even have the potential to trigger, can easily lead to relapse. Productivity is a big key here.

Hey man im going through a similar thing with youtube, what I do is set a stopwatch the second I go on it so I can actually see how long im wasting on it. Don't get me wrong half an hour to an hour I do enjoy it but after that like yourself im just kind of on there for the sake of it. Best of luck!!!

Yeah dude I feel you, when I'm watching them it feels great but after that it feels displeasing and it creates this sense of guilt for being unproductive. Otherwise, if I resist the urge to do unproductive things, it feels uncomfortable at first, but after going through the struggle and discomfort, I feel great and strong. Discipline is really fun :).

I Totally understand you, man! I had that same problem watching the same YT crap over and over again, but here's the thing: Instead of completely quitting YouTube, I just got rid of my old subscriptions and started watching self-development videos!
These are the channels I watch the most right now
-***: this guy made me discover NoFAP, tells everything about good habbits, girls, self confidence (I can't post the links right now :/)
-Thomas Frank: everything about productivity, getting good grades and much more
-BOB PROCTOR: this man has studied "SUCCESSFUL MINDSETS" for over 50 years!! #LEGEND
You see, it's already hard enough to abstain from pmo, so quitting every 'fun' thing at once won't make it easier (that's the case for me at least), so why not making 'watching YouTube' more usefull? There are so many interesting things out there, it would be a shame to miss it! ;)
P.S. English isn't my native language, so please be comprehensive if you find something wrong in my posts haha

I'm actually doing the same exact thing, I don't watch YouTube for entertainment videos, instead I always watch educational/self-development videos. But the thing is, I watch them too much and I'm binging on self-improvement videos, mostly motivational videos, but not doing anything. So basically, in other words, I'm addicted to self-improvement videos. It's a bad thing bcs I misuse their purpose, they are a mere distraction for pleasure, rather than a way to improve myself. But thank you for the great reply brother, I appreciate it :emoji_thumbsup::emoji_thumbsup:.
