Hey, just hit 4 months today.
Through my journey I have changed alot of habits. Cold showers, eating more healthier, exercise, no social media no videogames and much more.
But also stopped hearing music. My mind is much clearer and I haven't felt like playing music for a long time. Anyone ever felt that music isn't necessary for him? I think I got used to nature sounds. I feel I have alot of confidence. Like each thing I did is a massive confidence change. What do you guys think? Anyone experienced that? You don't need to tell me that I'm wrong. Feelings don't lie. I just wanna know if anyone did the same as me and how he feels about it

  3. Thing about music is that it can act as a crutch. Listening to music whilst running, for example, makes the run a whole lot easier. I don't advocate for not listening to music in your downtime, but whilst doing work or certainly strenuous exercise it should be avoided since you're giving yourself a crutch which won't always be there. If you go running for 2 hours straight without music you're going to be cultivating inner strength; whereas if you're listening to your favourite band you're going to be cultivating a whole lot less strength.

Depends on who. I don't like to hear music at all anymore and it benefited me. I used to hear while running but I just can't like it anymore. I think it's good because for me for example because I am going to the military and I won't have music in real time. If you know what I mean. I know that not everybody go to the military but I feel like i just don't like it. Even for motivation, I just can't. I don't feel like suffering. I just don't feel like hearing music.

  5. I'm enlisting (or commissioning) too. And no, I don't think they let us listen to our iPods on patrol ;) . I can't say I resonate with not wanting to listen to music though, it's more about steeling myself so that I don't need to.

I have found out that in periods i am relapsing a lot i listen to less music if not, not listening at all.
Studies show that music can help you a lot in a difficult situation or doing your daily tasks.Usually it kills stress and boosts your mood a lot.
But we are not all the same so if it's not working with you just pass ;)

Personaly is part of my job but even if it wasn't, i couldn't imagine my life without music.

Well, it is your job I understand. From my side of view whn guys say it kills stress, boosts mood etc. I understand you, but alot of things kill stress, i can say that processed food also kills stress, I'm not even comparing but I just want you to understand. People that are addicted for example. You can't know how no music feels like because you gotta go long term. Tbh I didn't do some kind of challange I just felt like stopping it honestly, and I feel like it helped me. I look different at things, I am more confidence because I'm not impacted by any music. Hearing music not played by yourself feels more exciting since you rarely hear music. Anyway what I'm trying to the say to you not one of those guys to come and ruin your mood by saying music is not good, I love music I just really rarely hear music. If it does it for you go for it, if you are here you I believe you sacrificed alot. You either cured porn addiction or either trying, you probably did sacrificed alot for it. I just think that through my streak I realized music doesn't do it for me for some reason.

To sum up - I recommend *Trying* no music to see what impact it has on you. Don't make yourself suffer if you don't like to. Music is great and trying to cure so many addictions can freak you out, so just don't if you don't feel like.

  8. i tried,

since im musician (musicproducer, soundengineer) and my work/profession is always dealing with sounds
so the quite moments are very precious to me,
and im very workaholic , both in producing music and listening to it,and its a very important and pleasurable part of my life,

i try nature sounds, like rain.. both in IRL and Sound files,
at the same time i was meditating too, and reading antient philosphy books...

overall for a near 2 month i feel very much more open minded and focused,

  10. Yeah I've been going for the no music approach lately as well. I find silence to be somewhat therapeutic. And I agree with @tangoalfaromeodelta that people use music as a crutch. My personal opinion is that music is too omnipresent right now. You used to have to play it yourself or listen to other people play it live, and even with the invention of the radio, not many people carried radios around 24/7. But now you can listen to music constantly and freely. And then it's really weird when you stop, and the world feels kind of boring and lonely. Well, I think the world shouldn't feel boring and lonely, because it's not. And so after stopping music, you kind of re-learn to appreciate things.

I think I miss understood what you said.
In terms of running for example you meant that music might help in runs but it won't always be there therefore it shouldn't be played?

What? I've run with and without music and there's no difference. If you run, you run no matter what you listen to.

  13. It's easier to run with music because you're distracted. You aren't paying as much attention to the state of your body so you don't notice yourself fatigue as much. If you run without distraction there's nothing to help you forget the increasing ache in your legs or shortness in your breath as the miles pile on, you have to learn to deal with it. Sure, the physical benefits are the same, but I find my mental hardness is improved much more when I have to sit with my thoughts.

In addition to what I said above, yeah.

Well i disagree on the subject of listening to music.
If it works for you to eliminate music, then great.
It wouldn’t work for me at all as music is a huge part of my life.
Can’t really imagine not listening to music as that would be depressing.
I will say that a lot of the lyrics in popular music these days are very sexual in nature. So in some cases listening to that kind of music can be triggering when you’re trying to kick the pmo habit.
For that reason, i switched from newer music to jazz from the 20’s, 30’s etc... back when music was less sexual and more artistic. I can listen to that stuff all day. It calms my mood and is not triggering at all.
Just my 2 cents on this subject.

    “Music makes you less depressed”...
Not sure what the down side of listening to music would be.
    Do you prefer depression ?

I kind of understand what you’re saying however,
that you can literally drown your brain in music all day,
vs the old days when that was not technically possible due to the limits of how music was being delivered. But i’m not convinced that listening to too much music is harmful.
I wouldn’t put it in the same category as smoking to excess or pmo as these activities have clear negative side effects.
Having said that, i also enjoy stretches of quiet time to help my brain unplug from the chaos of daily life. I think each person has to find a balance of music / quiet time that works for them as i don’t think it’s a one size fits all sort of thing.

    That's my point.
    .
I didn't just stop music, I was addicted to it. But the thing is I just didn't feel like hearing it which is amazing it's not like I fought it or something.

It sounds a lot better when you actually focus on the music and make listening the task itself rather than listening to music while doing something.

  18. You'd make a good porn apologist.
Here, I'll use your logic to argue for porn addiction.

"Porn makes me feel happy, and I'm depressed without it. So how could porn possibly be a bad thing? Would you prefer that I be unhappy?"

This is a staggering statement! In fact, it is a surprising thread. o_O I view the music I listen to in a very positive light.

I just do not see the connection between the fake sex of porn and music. I really cannot understand your rationale.

    That makes two of us.
If somebody can explain to me why listening to music is evil, i’m willing to listen.
