Does any body know if pornography also affects serotonin receptors? I've been trying to find a study but no luck. Does anyone know and can you write down some references if you know
I believe "Your Brain on Porn" by Gary Wilson addresses this issue but I'm not sure from which studies he got the information from. However, this much I can tell you: from what I've read about addictions in general over the years, addictions involve changes in serotonin receptors, among other changes in the brain's neurology. If you search for studies on other additions you will find some information on this. Mind you, pornography only became a mental health concern in recent years and there are still very few credible studies on porn addiction. Serious scientific research takes time and resources, so the few credible things that have been written on porn addiction are based on parallels with other addictions that have been studied for longer. Anyway, kudos to you for trying to find reliable information on this subject. The net is full of self appointed experts on just about any subject and it is not always easy to separate facts from speculation.
