I've experienced quite a few flatlines last year.

I'm actually looking forward to my next one ironically.

A flatline is essentially a period during your withdrawal in which the blueballs pain and the constant headaches finally cease and you don't easily get arosed during a long period of time.

You will feel numb and your dick will be limp, you'll even get scared at first and wonder if it still works---don't fear the flatline, rather, embrace it. Your penis works just fine, and if you press onward and persevere, it'll work even better than ever, ED cured n all.

However, if you fall for the Flatline Trap and start "testing" to see if your dick still works, eventually the prolonged exposure to triggers and sexual content will indeed snap you out of it---however that is essentially undoing your hard work abstaining more or less. (Don't use "testing" to see if your dick still can get hard as an excuse to fap & thus relapse, oldest trick your mind will try to justify to you, pffft!)

Edging always eventually leads to relapse because you've already filled your brain with dopamine by exposing your mind to the mental herion you're trying to ween yourself off of in the first place.

People say the flatline period is one of the hardest because like all humans, we more or less fear the unknown. Your mind can easily be swept into fear, not knowing when this numbness will end. Eventually it will come to pass and finally the feeling of nothingness will be replaced by good, positive feelings, energy. Yet you must be strong willed and persevere, otherwise it's all for nothing.

This is one of the first plateus you must pass, and you will feel it and definitely know a flatline when it's happening, the trick is to not fear it, but try to enjoy it while it last. Case afterwards, sexual triggers and perceptions in general will have a greater impact, thus the temptation to relapse will always exist. However the main difference is how you as a person is feeling. Your emotions might feel more positive afterwards rather than the usual fatigued, depressed, brain fog state you've become accustomed to over the years. The experience is different for many yet the main principles are still applied. Try to view the flatline period as a good sign, the first of many steps of your journey to true recovery.

    ----
The way my mind explains it to me, well let's just say for example a porn addict's mind after a constant state of PMO is more or less residing in a state of Hell. I mean sure the devil is occasionally tricking you with a false glimmer of hope for happiness, then it's abruptly and constantly snatched away on a regular basis. It's more or less a lie, you are a prisoner, trapped in a life of mediocrity and depression, merely existing rather than living.

If the life of a PMO daily addict is in theoretical hell, then we can view or illustrate an aspiring Fapstronaut in a Flatline state as a soul first arriving to purgatory. Purgatory is the realm in which neither heaven nor hell exists, yes? It is later decided where the lost soul is sent based on their actions.

Metaphorically speaking, if a life of addiction is hell, and a period in which an addict is slowly succeeding to ween themselves off is purgatory... Then obviously a full recovery would be basically heaven! That is what everyone truly desires for themselves yes? True happiness!! To live life and experience it's true wonders and perceive it fully without a clouded mind held back by false temporary euphoria. Wouldn't that feel divine?
    -------

Perhaps these metaphors weren't the best mind you. I'm not the overtly religious type nor atheist type, rather more agnostic I guess yet I digress. Feel free to supplement your own metaphors for your own situation. I just think it's personally better to view the three state of minds or stages of a recovering addict in this sense. To each your own though...

I'd recommend keeping yourself as occupied as possible with healthy habits.

Avoid staying isolated, bored, and alone. Walk outside if you must until the fear and temptation to relapse passes.

Eventually your hobbies will become fun again, in the meantime, try to attempt and experience new ones out of sheer curiosity.

Remember, flatline is a good sign, it's necessary to the reboot, embrace it. The temptation afterwards will be back soon, and in force, resist the temptation. Patience, discipline.
