Yes, as I understand it, dopamine is not the reward drug, it's the anticipation drug. It of course has a reward element that makes us feel good, but the majority of what it's about is making us want more. It is key to what motivates us to do anything at all in life. People who are extremely depressed who cannot even get out of bed have very low dopamine levels. When you orgasm, it is something else entirely that is 100% reward. So edging without orgasm could go on forever, with a steady stream of dopamine ruining your brain. It would be better to orgasm, get it all over with, and minimize your losses.

Thanks. You can do this. Just keep choosing your goal instead of immediate impulse - every day, every hour, every second. Then you'll find yourself suddenly with long stretches where you don't have to make that choice anymore. At least that's how it is for me.
