    Understanding
    PMO urges, like any other urges (etc being hungry, angry, urge to punch your boss) will never go away. What I personally feel that goes away as you progress into nofap is the thought of fapping. At a point, when the sexual urges come, you just feel like having sex instead of engaging in PMO. And that's a great improvement as compared to feel like engaging in PMO. Thats because many fail to realize that even if you have never engaged in pornography or masturbation in ur life, you will still feel the sexual urge and think about sex. Hence, no longer thinking to engage in pornography and masturbation is definitely a great milestone or KPI to be achieved.

    How to react/cope:
    Transmutation. Similar to the first law of thermodynamics which states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed, we need to transmute (transform) that energy/frustration from the urge into something productive, preferably something that provides us our dose of dopamine (feeling good neurotransmitter).

    Imagine a guy who developed a coping mechanism to stress by running. Everytime his stress peaks, he laces up and run. At the end of his run, he gets that dopamine rush, runners high etc. Not only that his urge has been suppressed but it made him feel way better, uplifted his mood, creating more mental space for other mental activities and allowing him to make better decisions. Hence, developing a healthy coping mechanism is the way forward to react to your urges (be it PMO or not). The reason why i specified healthy is because there are unhealthy coping mechanisms, of which should be avoided.

    My preferred coping mechanism to urges & stress:
    - contact sports such as muay thai & boxing;
    - outdoor activies;
    - work on projects.

    Hope that helps.
