hey all, so like the title states, today I talked with my doctor about pmo.

he's an experienced urologist and sexologist (might be the only one in my country). I told him about my pmo addiction etc. and he just said yeah, you gotta stop watching porn. first of all masturbation is selfish, second of all pmo is like a drug. he compared it to cocaine and marijuana. it creates centres in your brain and you need a larger and larger hit.

now, what he said isn't groundbreaking news to 99% of the people reading this but hearing it from an experienced proffessional added much weight to the facts.

the good thing is, he said all those centres disappear over time, only thing we gotta do is stop pmo.

It is really encouraging to hear these views of an experienced clinician. Thanks for sharing.

It might be interesting to ask him when you see him next time, if he gets any pushback from colleagues re: PMO addiction.

Put a note on your calendar or diary (digital or actual) to be sure. If you do have his response, please 'reply' to this post and then I will be notified. Thanks.

  5. This is actually the first legitimate statement I've heard from someone's doctor. I've seen a few other posts from psychologists/therapists and they were unclear, but it's good to hear especially from an expert.

  6. Also the majority of them don't consider porn addiction as an actual addiction.

Do you have any problems with frequent urination, prostate, dribbling after urinating etc? Did he say anything about these things?

Nice one, I think that little by little the views on porn will change. At the end it will be treated as what it is: a dangerous addiction. We have a part in this, and need to make the effects more visible.

    Hello @Selfdiscovery! :D

Thanks for your message. My health is up and down, but I have learnt how to ride the rollercoaster, just as you are doing with the withdrawals from time to time. Your journey of recovery is beautiful. Nearly 10 months - CONGRATULATIONS! :D

Few doctors have started to agree that porn is addictive and causes sexual dysfunction. While majority of them declares it normal and healthy, this is really unfortunate.

Great post! In my personal experience it has always been urologist who admitted to mastubation and porn being a problem.Therapist, psychologists and others always beat around the bush, it could be, it could be something else blah blah
